Before we get into it, we just wanted to remind you about two of our Mother’s Day-related activities. First, we have achieved 61% of our fundraising goal for the You-Deserve-To-Be-Here Mother’s Day Fundraiser! Help us raise that last 39% with a donation today. You can donate any amount you want, but there are some fun thank you gifts just like the NPR/PBS fundraisers you’re probably hearing all over your radios these days. All donations go directly to support writer-mothers who might not otherwise be able to attend our events. This fund is essential for us to ensure we make these events inclusive even as we have to raise prices.
And, don’t forget to join us for our free (Write Like a) Mother’s Day Reading on Thursday, May 22nd!
With that, let’s get into it…
So…how was your Mother’s Day? It’s been a few days, so it’s a good time to reflect.
Mother’s Day doesn’t feel like a celebration for so many of us. For the people who have lost their mothers, for people who have lost children, for people who have wanted to be mothers, and for those who have complicated relationships with their mothers. And then factor in all of the complications of being the emotional laborer where Mother’s Day often doesn’t turn out as you had envisioned.
For our part, Elizabeth spent the day with family just doing regular Sunday things. Hooray. And Rachel spent it decompressing after several days of walking along The Dingle Way in IRELAND along with fellow writer-mom, Laura (and no kids and spouses!) and reliving her glory days working at an English pub by pouring herself a Guinness. All in all, Rachel wins for best Mother’s Day activity. Although Carla is runner up by spending the day after Mother’s Day celebrating 39 years of marriage (and 47 years together) with her incredible husband, Big Al.

Elizabeth does not have any photos from Mother’s Day except for this one she had her husband take of her with her garden to post along with her Cramming for the Apocalypse Substack :)
This is all preamble to ask you all—how was YOUR Mother’s Day?! Was it lovely? Was it complex? Was it just so-so? Did you even get some writing in?! We want to know it all!
Post your comments below to share!
And while you’re reflecting, don’t forget about our next session coming up with Amanda Burnham next week in addition to all the other Mother’s Day activities we have going on.
Meh… long story!
