Let Us Help You With Your Scene Work
Join Shay Galloway in a craft session on writing inspired scenes next week
Hey friends!
How’s your writing coming? I have to admit, this time of year is wild. Between all the school activities and spring sports and, also, you know the world feeling like it’s going down the tubes, my writing has been on the back burner.
Adventures at AWP helped fuel my writing a bit…at least after I recovered from the exhaustion. One session in particular that I keep thinking about was the session on writing engaging scenes. It was an incredible panel of female writers of color that began with Mira Jacobs reading a truly impeccable scene from Toni Morrison’s Sula. I won’t go into all the specifics of what I took away from that, but I left inspired with some incredible tips and ideas.
But then when I got to trying to implement some of it, I felt a bit at a loss. Not because of the quality of the suggestions, but because it was so much information in so little time. If only I had the opportunity to write during the session.
Luckily for me—and for many of you—we have a session on scene writing with Shay Galloway coming up that will involve writing. She’ll hone in on techniques for emotionally engaging scenes and will provide opportunity put this into action.
In this session, we will learn about building emotionally engaging scenes through poetic prose and authentic dialogue. Bring your characters and their stories to life!
We'll discuss tightening prose at the line level and balancing descriptive passages, action and dialogue to create scenes that entrance readers. This session is an absolute must for every creative writer!
